it's that and more perhaps .... communism stripped away the
individual's sense of self ... and with that, any sense of morality
and scruples ... one becomes just another digit in a billion ....
so you do what you can to survive .... their society is a lot more
darwainian than ours .....
on the other hand though, I'm not sure if it's just a phase in
their development ... I mean ... japan used to be copy cats too,
ditto south korea .... and from reading upton sinclair and such, I
get the sense that even the US was like that once upon a time too
... 
that said, the chinese (and the indians) are a very urban people
... their development shall have a deep impact on this planet ...
for the worse ...
